It would help if I stopped buying plants without any clear idea of where to put them! I hear you on needing help with the heavy labor. It's well worth it!

See you Thursday!Cindy, MCOKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16094260737874973235noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7327638960016684551.post-57222719689036959292009-05-24T07:46:37.082-05:002009-05-24T07:46:37.082-05:00Bonnie -- I had them eaten out there before, but ...Bonnie -- I had them eaten out there before, but I've seen others plant them in open areas so I am trying again. They give us so much privacy. You certainly got lots done and with the nice gentle rain tonight all your plantings will be really happy. Keep 'em well watered because it's going into the 90s next week.Rock rose https://www.blogger.com/profile/00348711150803587369noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7327638960016684551.post-60070658124113687052009-05-22T21:21:42.234-05:002009-05-22T21:21:42.234-05:00I am all for getting help! And gone! I suppose I could make the beds now and put in the Agaves and wait on trees for fall...but then I will end up with weeds where I have not planted, so...maybe I will wait. Besides, I need a "vision." Still waiting for that to hit me ;-)Dianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08681758051433522246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7327638960016684551.post-3107450663260774942009-05-22T11:48:43.452-05:002009-05-22T11:48:43.452-05:00I kind of like a solitary cedar tree if it has cha...I kind of like a solitary cedar tree if it has character, even though I have cedar allergies too. There are some nice ones on the grounds of the Natural Gardener.

But of course I understand and wholeheartedly support the desire to replace something you don't love with something you do! An agave bed sounds yummy, as you mentioned in one of your replies. Summer is the perfect time to plant them, even if you hold off on everything else.

Smart woman to hire out the heavy work. I'm learning from your example. ;-)Pam/Digginghttp://www.penick.net/diggingnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7327638960016684551.post-14841014005362076692009-05-22T07:25:50.527-05:002009-05-22T07:25:50.527-05:00Jan -- Not to mention that even if I could do some...Jan -- Not to mention that even if I could do some of the things I have them do, it would take me FOREVER and sometimes I just want it all DONE. It's no fun when your back, neck, knees and arms give out, is it? But with some help, I can focus on the things I want to do myself. Too bad I can't find anyone to weed, though. They always end up pulling real plants. Guess I am stuck with that one!Dianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08681758051433522246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7327638960016684551.post-46261374871301800602009-05-21T22:04:03.178-05:002009-05-21T22:04:03.178-05:00I agree with you about help, and understand the ne...I agree with you about help, and understand the need for it! I still do quite a lot, but have degenerative discs and neck & back pain, etc. While I rely on my husband for some of the very heavy stuff, we hired some guys recently for some of the work we did in our back yard as we made changes to it. It was a big help to have them carry compost and rocks and stone, and dig holes, etc! I used to be able to do it all but unfortunately those days are gone
;-(Janhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12844013803699228989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7327638960016684551.post-91003511740629971952009-05-21T20:42:39.904-05:002009-05-21T20:42:39.904-05:00Frances -- Yep - I had to learn to accept my limit...Frances -- Yep - I had to learn to accept my limitations, and I don't want to have them in the garden, so I call for help several times a year and just make a list. My DH helps me with stuff along the way, but today I got 3 guys all day, so we really cranked it out. Tomorrow -- weeding and planting in pots!

Lisa -- I was worn out watching them. I did the easy stuff. And I don't know what I am going to do with the tree gone. I have a vision for the corner of yard behind where the tree was -- big bed, giant agaves -- and not until late fall. It's too hot to do all of that now and baby it. I am not watering trees every day for a month and then every few days for several months by hand. I may post my idea and troll for suggestions from you!Dianahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08681758051433522246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7327638960016684551.post-78080998155947416672009-05-21T19:12:48.240-05:002009-05-21T19:12:48.240-05:00Whew, I am worn out just reading about all this wo...Whew, I am worn out just reading about all this work. It is so easy for them and so dangerous for us. We need to stick with the little things. Sounds like you still have plenty to keep you busy though. I do admire the bulbines, love that color. Wish we could grow them as perennials here.
FrancesFranceshttp://fairegarden.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.com
