Ocelot Iris wowing me in the spring garden...

This ocelot iris just opened and it's living up to it's advertising. It's a tall beared iris and I planted it in the front bed in September of '08. It's only bloomed twice. Those years, its bloom was a very faded creamy yellow and a dusty mauve -- no where near the vibrant colors I fell in love with when I ordered them from Spring Hill. And I even complained about it on my blog here.

But this must have been the year. Maybe it was the drought. Maybe it was the rains. Maybe it was the mild winter.

Whatever it was, I'm happy. She's a beautiful vision of ruffled loveliness.

Ahhh, spring! Do you have irises blooming in your garden now?

My yellow "Summer Olympics" just finished putting on a show that started in December! Right now, have some only in bud. Strange blooming schedule this year. Love the ocelot iris. How odd that it went from pale to vibrant. Looks different enough to be two different irises if we didn't know better.

How pretty Diana, love it! I don't have any irises blooming now. I do have some dwarf ones coming up...a passalong plant(s). Hope mine bloom a lot!

What a beautiful bloom!
I have a couple blooms in my white iris flower bed, but the purple have not bloomed yet.
Happy Spring!

Sandy - I'd never heard of 'summer olympics' so I googled it - lovely. And so cool that they can have two bloom cycles.

Janet -- I don't have any dwarf irises - might have to check them out.
Good luck with yours.

NotSoAngryRedHead - I have bearded and non-bearded - those Louisiana irises are not bearded. I like them all.

Lea - I have some white passalongs that haven't bloomed either. I think they need more sun. If they don't bloom this spring I'm going to move them.

That's beautiful.

I have GOT to get more iris. The lone one I have isn't doing much.

Have a great weekend.

You KNOW I love that Iris! Congrats on such a gorgeous bloom this year. My fancy Iris haven't started blooming yet, but I have hopes that they'll stick to their normal schedule of late April. Do you have others already in bloom? My peach, white, and purple have bloomed already. Great pic, by the way.

Not a one! Grumble grumble. Annie in Austin's white passalong did bloom already, but it's done. I think my garden must be getting shadier because my dependable 'Amethyst Flame' is doing absolutely nothing. Your 'Ocelot' is a beauty!
