Monopolizing munchies...

So, the plants are in the greenhouse and only require a squirt of the hose each day and opening and closing doors and windows.

And since it's only weeks until our annual holiday party, my urge to garden and plant the new bed and work outside...and yes, BLOG... is being squelched by a more urgent need to make about 1500 appetizers in the next 3 weeks!

So, today it was 168 mini quiches with Gruyere cheese and olives.

If I'm AWOL for a while, just imagine me here in crab cake hell!

Are you insane? Mini-quiches are what Costco is for. And now you're doing crabcakes? Do you want us to come over and stage an intervention?

Holy cow, that's a lot of cooking! Do you have a huge freezer to store everything in until the big day? I can't even imagine cooking a Thanksgiving dinner on top of all of those appetizers.

Lisa - We have 150 people, and we always do all the cooking, so it's become kind of a tradition. A growing tradition - I think we had 35 people when we started!

I'd email you a recipe Anonymous, if you send me your email address! Check back with me...

Gail - it IS a lot, but when it's all done it is so wonderful and we have a ball.

Libby - yeah, but these are better than Costco! I started small and grew insane over 8 years of doing it and it getting so big. I do need an intervention!!!

Lori - we have 2 fridges (with freezers) and last year we bought a little baby freezer for the garage to help with this and some other party/cooking stuff we do around the year. Lucky for me, we're headed to Indiana for Thanksgiving tomorrow, so I will only be a helper and an eater for that meal!

Conscious Gardener - They do eat a lot - lots of folks come for the food, since we've been doing it 8 years, it's a tradition. My DH asked last year if I wanted to have it catered and I said it just wouldn't be the same. Besides, I'm type A - I have lists and planners and spreadsheets for each year, and we learn something every time and take notes, so it isn't as hard as it sounds.
